MILWAUKEE, September 1, 2022 - On the heels of the release of his New York Times Best Selling book, The Midwest Survival Guide: How We Talk, Love, Work, Drink, and Eat . . . Everything with Ranch, comedian and creator of The Manitowoc Minute, Charlie Berens, is releasing the Midwest card game Card Sale.
He has teamed up with fellow Wisconsinite Dane Schaefer to launch a Kickstarter campaign with the goal of producing the game they’ve created. They say it’s the perfect game for anyone who has a love for the Midwest, yard sales and/or the age old art of BS.
“Card Sale was inspired by this sketch Dane and I wrote about a neighborhood yard sale,” Berens said. “There’s always those people (and you know who you are) who are trying to make some piece of junk more appealing by saying it’s ‘antique’ or ‘upcycled’ or ‘might be worth a lot of money some day’. We had fun coming up with the different things people could say about their respective pieces of junk and that was the inspiration for the game.”
The game’s other creator, Dane Schaefer, describes it as a “comical mashup of Shark Tank, and a highly competitive neighborhood yard sale.”
“Players use cards to create fantastic, and often hilarious, products in an attempt to outdo their competition,” Schaefer said. “They can also sabotage each other by adding awful features to competitors' products, which is when things get really interesting.”
Card Sale is launching exclusively on Kickstarter, and the campaign is live now. The campaign will run through September 30th. As long as the campaign is successful, backers can secure a copy of the finished game, a “Midwest” themed expansion pack of game cards, and/or other items related to the game.
Berens has over 6 million social media followers, written the New York Times Bestseller Midwest Survival Guide and sold out shows throughout the US. He and Shaefer hope Card Sale will bring the joy of BSing at Midwest yard sales to kitchen tables and barstools across the country.
